Merging Latin American and Caribbean History into the study of Baltimore, a leading Atlantic port city in the nineteenth century, this symposium will explore Baltimore's lesser-known connections with Latin America and the Caribbean, a critical region in the making of the modern Atlantic world. Scholars will debate the connections between these two places in its economic, cultural, political, ecological, and intellectual dimensions. Discussions will also elevate comparative approaches to thinking through race, slavery, and freedom as well as how Black diasporic identities and experiences transcended national borders.

Organizers: Christian Robles-Baez & Matthew Randolph
