About

Why I'm minoring in Urban Studies: I'm majoring in the Earth Systems Sustainable Food and Agriculture program with the hope of working on food security and sustainable development. I decided to minor in Urban Studies to incorporate a more interpersonal and historical approach with my scientific background. I also believe that the future of sustainable development depends on the urban population, and thus studying urban social and political dynamics will help me develop a holistic understanding to the subject.

What I like best about Urban Studies: Urban Studies is a global field that allows you to study a variety of different cultures and meet people from all over the world, which I think is super cool. Urban Studies also ties in a lot of elements of pop culture, like street art and music, and connects them to important issues of social justice and political inequality.

Favorite class / professor (and why): So far my favorite class has be GS 1 with Erik Sperling. He's super passionate about geology and is able to connect with students in a way that makes you equally excited to learn about the field as he is. We also went on a fun field trip to look at fault lines and rock specimens in the Bay Area, and he brought his dog to class once.

Favorite book (and why): Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It's a classic!

Career goal / Future plans: I want to work in sustainable urban development, whether that be through planning or politics, and I'm planning to apply to law school after graduation.
