Alumni Return to Campus for Urban Studies Mini-Reunion

Urban studies alumni talking to each other during reunion

Over 40 Urban Studies alumni attended the Urban Studies mini-reunion during reunion-homecoming weekend at Stanford in October. Alumni saw old friends and made new connections over food and wine in the Mendenhall Library, in building 120 on the Main Quad. Among the special guests this year were several faculty members that the alumni remembered well, including former Program Director Leonard Ortolano, and longtime Urban Design instructor Gerry Gast. Everyone left with an Urban Studies water bottle or travel mug!

The reunion kicked off with a career counseling event, during which five alumni from various professional fields engaged in career “speed dating” with current Urban Studies students. Each alum spoke one-on-one with a student for about 10 minutes, answering questions and providing information about their chosen career field, after which the students rotated to another alum. Participating alumni ranged from the class of 1990 to the class of 2008, and included fields such as urban design, environmental planning, and economic development consulting.

Next year’s Urban Studies mini-reunion is scheduled to take place October 26, 2018; mark your calendar!
